A number of areas in Fife have been designated as Local Estate Regeneration Areas, where unpopular flats are being demolished and the areas redeveloped to provide new affordable housing, designed to meet the shortage for particular house types and to meet identified needs in the areas.
The initiatives are the result of the successful partnership with Fife Council and most of this work is concentrated in the Central Fife area, where projects in Kirkcaldy and Glenrothes have been progressed. These types of redevelopment projects provide the opportunity to work with the local community to ensure the redevelopment proposals enhance the environment, and contribute to sustaining the local communities.
The Tanshall area in Glenrothes is a typical example of the work being carried out. Two phases had been completed by 2007 and work has commenced on a third phase which, when completed will provide 35 new affordable houses for rent.
Proposals are also being developed for a similar project in inverkeithing in West Fife, where planning consent has been granted for redevelopment of Barr Crescent, Inverkeithing.
